Scouts Takeover the LECOM Arena for Scouting’s Birthday

By Paula Umber, February 2025

On Saturday, February 8th, Scouts from the Winding Rivers District celebrated the birth of Scouting with Scouts Take Over the Arena at the Elmira LECOM Event Center. Almost 100 scouts, families and friends started with an open skate sponsored by Waverly VFW Post 8104. Even with an incoming snowstorm, many stayed to watch the home team Elmira Aviators take on the visiting Danbury Hat Tricks

The Scouts were recognized on the arena’s Jumbotron several times during the event. Winding Rivers District Executive Paula Umber dropped the puck, Scouts led by Troop 50 (Odessa, NY) presented the American flag during the National Anthem, and two Scouts competed head-to-head to win a gift card. The Scouts definitely took over the arena, accounting for half of the total attendance. Event though the Hat Tricks beat the Aviators 5-4, a good time was had by all. Thank you to all who attended!
